What’s Up with KQUA Winter 2024
by John Dyer
As we move rapidly toward year’s end, we can look back at a busy and often surprising year that promises even more growth in 2025. Umpqua Watersheds and KQUA have participated in multiple events throughout 2024, including the annual River Appreciation Day, BrewFest, and Roseburg Pride events, as well as the Roseburg Station Family and Friends event held at McMenamins restaurant. This fundraiser not only garnered much-needed financial support for KQUA, but it also gave us a chance to interact with UW family, friends, and supporters. We look forward to holding more radio-related public events in the new year, so be sure to check the KQUA FB page and listen to the station!
The most immediate change is taking place in the physical space housing KQUA. Along with general cleanup and renovation of the various offices, we are building a better-functioning studio, complete with a new console work/interview station, which will allow in-studio gatherings that can be recorded live. We even hope to create a small live performance space! We are also looking to build up our local news reporting efforts in the new year, allowing even better outreach throughout the UW community.
As we continue to build on our established social media efforts, we anticipate finalizing the improved radio antenna, allowing us to reach a much larger audience in Southern Oregon and enabling us to build new relationships and support systems in 2025. Whatever challenges await us in the new year, our beautiful and strong community of family, friends, and supporters becomes even more appreciated and essential. We could not make any of this happen without each other, and whether far or near, we can build a better world for everyone. Happy upcoming New Year wishes to all, and be sure to tune in to KQUA.org, 99.7, The River!
