Trail Tuesdays

Every Tuesday, our AmeriCorps educator, Robyn, finds herself walking through the hills of Oakland on the Lincoln Middle School Nature Trail. Through a partnership with the LMS science teacher, Mr. Krissie, Robyn helps facilitate outdoor learning and discovery on the school’s trail and beyond. Students learn how to collect ecological data and use those data to make informed decision on how to make the trail more healthy. The scope covers important topics in soil erosion, human impacts, genetics, wildlife ecology, engineering and weather.

7th grade students measure out belt transects on the trail

6th grade students study soil absorption and erosion on the trail

Spurge-laurel (Daphne laureola) is one of the most pervasive invasive species on the trail that 8th graders are working to remove.
