Executive Director Update Summer 2025
Resilience and Perseverance in Challenging Times
In the face of adversity, we are reminded of the strength and heart of those around us. The story of Umpqua Watersheds is one of perseverance, a testament to what is possible when we stand together for the places and values we hold dear.
This past year has tested that resolve. When the unexpected loss of the AmeriCorps program threatened to leave us without the support of our beloved Education & Outreach Leader, Julie Lowe, our supporters didn’t hesitate. Members and friends stepped up, offering generous donations that allowed us to cover Julie’s position through July. Thanks to this outpouring of support, her essential work in environmental education, outreach, and engagement has continued uninterrupted.

For more than 15 years, AmeriCorps members have been an essential part of Umpqua Watersheds, leaving a lasting legacy of service. Many continue to stay connected with us, contributing in a variety of ways. We’re grateful to have Robyn, Viviana, and Jessica still living in the area and actively supporting our work. Every one of our alums has gone on to serve others, whether through their careers or volunteer efforts. Many have shared that their AmeriCorps experience was transformative, helping to shape their lives long after their terms concluded.

We are deeply grateful for the UCAN AmeriCorps program and the incredible impact it has had on Umpqua Watersheds and the broader Umpqua region. The loss of this program is a significant setback—not just for us but for the many organizations and people it served.
We remain steadfast in advocating for its restoration and invite you to join us in that effort. Learn more about UCAN’s AmeriCorps program and how you can support its return at: www.ucancap.org/americorps/
As we prepare for our 30th Anniversary Banquet on June 29, I am filled with gratitude for the resilience and determination that define our work. Together, we will continue to protect the places we love, inspire the next generation of environmental stewards, and carry forward the spirit of service that strengthens Umpqua Watersheds.
Thank you for standing with us!
