The 23nd Annual Umpqua Watersheds Banquet and Silent Auction event is on the calendar for Saturday, April 13th, 2019 at the Umpqua Community College’s Campus Center.
The Umpqua Watersheds is unique to our community with a focus to protect and restore the Umpqua River, and to support strong conservation values. The financial support required from our friends and supporters goes towards our continued efforts on the campaign for a Summer Low Flow plan. Also, we need to heed the voice of the youth, or those with the most to lose in the current climate crisis.
With that in mind, we are pleased to announce that Jacob Lebel from Our Children’s Trust will be our guest speaker. He represents the uphill battle to secure the legal right to a stable climate and healthy atmosphere for the benefit of all the present and future generations.
The Silent Auction continues to grow each year with charitable donations from individuals and businesses. Any item or service for the auction helps us with the costs of putting on great events, and contributes to our financial success. Many people share their time and energy to make this evening a success.
As our organization ages like a fine wine, we still need to find professionals to join our ranks and continue the struggle. As stated in our mission statement, “the Umpqua Watersheds is dedicated to the protection and restoration of the ecosystems of the Umpqua Watershed and beyond through education, training, and advocacy.” We have many things to be thankful for including two AmeriCorps maintaining our organization’s involvement with the local youth. We have a radio station KQUA 99.7 with weekly talk shows and excellent musical programming, and we have you, our friends and supporters, to thank for your continued support.
